SEO Checklist 2026

Thousands of builders, contractors, architects and property businesses across the UK have websites that look perfectly fine yet generate almost no enquiries from search. The site is there. Google just does not send anyone to it. In most cases it is not one big problem. It is ten small ones. This checklist covers all of them.

How to Use This Checklist

Work through each page of the website systematically. Start with the homepage, then the main service pages, then any location or blog pages. Each check is either in place or it is not. There is no partial credit.
For construction and property businesses, the pages that matter most are the ones targeting local service terms. A groundworks company in Bournemouth needs its service pages optimised before its blog. Get the foundations right first.
If any of these checks are failing across multiple pages, the website is leaving rankings and enquiries on the table. The fixes are not complicated. They are just consistent work applied in the right order.

Why Most Trade and Construction Websites Are Invisible on Google

Having a website is not the same as being found. That sounds obvious. But thousands of builders, contractors, architects and property businesses across the UK have websites that look perfectly fine, load without errors, describe their services clearly and still generate almost no enquiries from search. The site is there. Google just does not send anyone to it.
In most cases it is not one big problem. It is ten small ones. A page title that does not mention the actual service. A main heading wasted on something like "Welcome to our website." Photos uploaded straight from a phone, five megabytes each, making every page take four seconds to load on mobile. Pages that were built, published and then never linked to from anywhere, so Google has no way of knowing they exist.
None of these are hard to fix. But they add up. And until they are fixed, the site stays invisible regardless of how good the work behind it actually is.
SEO is not about tricks. It is about making it easy for Google to understand what each page covers, who it is for and where you work. Do that consistently across the whole site and the rankings follow. This is the exact checklist I use on every project I work on.
